Abstract

A half length portrait of a tribal man dressed in his regalia. He has been identified as Chief Longhair, a Cayuse tribal member. He is wearing a capote coat that is made out of a fringed blanket. He has on two bandoleers; one is a hair-bone and the other one is fur. Under both of the bandoleers is a Loop Necklace and a leather belt with brass tacks to hold his capote closed. He is holding a pipe with a striped stem in both hands in his lap. The subject is seated in front of a backdrop, but it is unclear whether the photo was taken indoors or outdoors."Chief Long Hair Cayuse Tribe" and "Major Moorhouse" is inscribed in white.
