Abstract
"The Democrat certainly cannot be truthfully accused of having thrown mud during this campaign. We have freely discussed the public record and qualifications or disqualifications of the candidates, as we considered we had a right to do. We have also, perhaps, pretty severely censured the manner by which a number of the republican candidates secured a nomination, as such methods deserve to be censured, but we have thrown no mud--we have not gone outside the record."
