Abstract

"President McKinley has given it out flat that on his coming visit to the coast he desires no public receptions, will make no speeches, does not wish to shake hands with the people and will give no audience in advance to committees appointed to receive him. The only form of entertainment that he suggests to fill in his short engagement is a carriage drive. So be it Mr. President, you are going to be our guest and we will do our best to please you. We will drive you about our beautiful city in a coach and four (not the same you rode through the constitution) where the surging populace may behold you and shout hosanna's into your listening ear."
