"Cloud burst did it. In Union Gap a Mile Below Yakima City. Hurls a Great Mass of Earth and Rock on the N. P. Railway Track. On the afternoon of the Fourth word was received from Yakima City that there had been a landslide east of that burg and that the Northern Pacific track was covered up for a distance of sixty feet and four or five feet deep. A reporter visited the scene of the small flood and found that at the last end of the gap a mass of earth spread over the rack for quite a distance, and train No. 1, struck hard and fast with the tender and a baggage off the track."
