Abstract
Reprinted from the American Bar Association Journal, Vol. 53. and written by the President-Elect of the American Bar Association. "The proposal of the American Bar Association for a constitutional amendment providing for the election of the President and Vice President by direct popular vote embodies the ideal of the framers of our Constitution, Mr. Gossett declares. The Constitution-makers were forced to adopt a compromise device--the electoral college. But now, after 180 years, the defects of the compromise are clear, and the time is ripe to return to the old ideal."
