Abstract

Explains the meaning and history behind the North Pacific symbol. "At the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, E. H. McHenry, then Chief Engineer of the Northern Pacific, chanced to visit the Korean exhibit. Seeing the Korean flag, he was impressed by the simple but striking design it carried. Because at that time NP was searching for a suitable trademark, Mr. McHenry realized almost immediately that this symbol could be adapted quite readily for that purpose." Color illustrations throughout.
