"Northern Pacific's first locomotive the Minnetonka, stands in contrast to the railway's newest motive power, three 2500-HP units built from an order of 15 for the NP by General Electric. The Minnetonka, purchased in July, 1870, was capable of developing a maximum horsepower of 115."
